Step 3 - Setting Up The Charts

Strategies are built for specific instruments and chart timeframes. If you pick the wrong one, two bad things happen:

  • The strategy may not trade at all (because its logic expects certain bar types).

  • Or worse: it trades with distorted behavior (wrong instrument, chart, etc..).

3.1 Pick Your Strategy First (Quick Decision)

💡 Tip for beginners

If you’re nervous about big swings, start with micro contracts:

  • MNQ instead of NQ

  • MES instead of ES

Micros move 10x less money per tick than minis.

3.2 Open a New Chart

  1. In Control Center, click NewChart

  2. In the Instrument box, type your instrument:

    • NQ / MNQ / ES / MES

  3. Select the correct contract if shown (example: “MES 03-26” style naming).

  4. Set the timeframe:

    • 1 Minute, 30 Seconds, or 3 Minutes (depending on strategy)

  5. Click OK
