TradingBoss Daily Operations Guide (Set-and-Forget + What to Monitor)

TradingBoss Daily Operations Guide (Set-and-Forget + What to Monitor)

Welcome to the Daily Operations Guide.

This guide is about what happens after you finish setup.

Most beginners assume automated trading means:

  • “I never have to look at anything again.”

The truth is:

  • you don’t need to babysit charts all day,

  • but you do want a fast, simple check-in routine so you catch issues early.

The good news: TradingBoss has been updated so the daily routine is now mostly hands-off.

✅ IMPORTANT UPDATE (READ THIS FIRST)

TradingBoss strategies now auto-refresh daily.

That means:

  • daily trade counters reset automatically,

  • internal logic resets automatically,

  • connection maintenance is handled automatically in normal conditions.

You do NOT need to:

  • disconnect/reconnect every morning

  • restart strategies every day

  • turn strategies off at night and back on in the morning

Once your strategy is enabled on the VPS, you can leave it running continuously.

You only intervene when there is a real problem (connection, VPS, license, or errors).

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this document, you will know:

  • What TradingBoss does automatically each day (so you don’t waste time doing it manually)

  • The only daily check you should do (30 seconds)

  • The weekly check (5 minutes) that prevents “silent failures”

  • Warning signs that require attention

  • When manual intervention is actually needed (and when it’s not)

  • How to confirm everything is running correctly

  • What to do before going on vacation or being away

1) The New Reality: It’s Mostly Hands-Off Now

Let’s set expectations clearly.

What “hands-off” means in TradingBoss

  • You should not have to do daily reconnect rituals.

  • You should not have to restart strategies every morning.

  • You should not have to manually reset anything daily.

What “hands-off” does NOT mean

  • You can ignore everything for months and assume it’s perfect.

  • You can close your VPS or uninstall things randomly.

  • You never have to check connection status.

Think of this like a smart thermostat.

It runs itself, but once in a while you glance at it to confirm:

  • it’s on,

  • the house is warm,

  • and nothing is obviously broken.

That’s the role of your daily and weekly checks.

2) What Happens Automatically (So You Don’t Need a Manual Routine)

TradingBoss strategies include automation that handles the “daily reset” process for you.

A) Daily Reset of Trade Counters

Many strategies have daily limits like:

  • one trade per day (MONEYBAGS, Blitz, FastPass)

  • or daily caps (Pulse, 60M)

The updated system automatically resets those counters daily.

That means:

  • yesterday’s “done for day” does not permanently lock you out,

  • you don’t need to toggle the strategy off/on to “make it trade again.”

B) Automatic Strategy Refresh

Strategies handle internal refresh behavior that prevents common “stale state” issues.

This reduces problems like:

  • strategy still thinking it’s yesterday,

  • stuck session states,

  • “why is it not scanning?”

C) Connection Maintenance (Normal Conditions)

If everything is healthy (VPS stable + broker stable), strategies are designed to keep running without you doing anything.

If the broker connection drops, the system typically attempts recovery.

📝 Note

“Automatic” doesn’t mean magic. If the entire VPS loses internet, nothing can trade. But the system is designed to avoid unnecessary daily micromanagement.

3) What You Should Still Monitor (Very Simple)

Even with automation, you still monitor three pillars:

  1. VPS — Is the machine running?

  2. Broker connection — Are you connected (green)?

  3. Strategy status — Is it enabled and not erroring?

You are not monitoring to “trade manually.” You are monitoring to catch “silent failures” early.

4) The 30-Second Daily Check (Do This Once Per Day)

This is the only daily routine most members need.

You can do this:

  • in the morning,

  • or anytime before the strategy’s trade window.

Step-by-Step: Daily Check (30 seconds)

Step 1 — Log into your VPS

  • Remote Desktop into the VPS

  • Don’t panic if you see charts minimized. That’s normal.

Step 2 — Confirm NinjaTrader is running

Look at your Windows taskbar:

  • Is NinjaTrader open?

  • If yes, click it to bring it forward.

✅ If NinjaTrader is open → continue

❌ If NinjaTrader is closed → see “When manual intervention is needed.”

Step 3 — Check broker connection indicator

In NinjaTrader Control Center, look at the connection icon / status.

  • Green = connected (good)

  • Yellow = connecting (wait briefly)

  • Red = disconnected/problem

  • Gray = not connected at all

✅ If green → continue

🟡 If yellow → wait 10–30 seconds

🔴 If red → go to broker troubleshooting steps

⚪ If gray → connect (or diagnose why you can’t)

Step 4 — Check your strategy status on chart

Open the chart for your strategy (or workspace):

Look for:

  • enabled status (not gray)

  • chart updating

  • status like ACTIVE/SCANNING/WARMUP

✅ Normal healthy states:

  • ACTIVE

  • SCANNING

  • WARMUP (especially shortly after enabling)

  • DONE FOR DAY (if it already traded today)

❌ Warning states:

  • UNLICENSED

  • repeated errors in Output

  • strategy gray/inactive when you expected it enabled

Step 5 — Quick glance at Output window (optional but powerful)

In Control Center:

  • New → Output

If there are no repeated red errors, you’re done.

✅ Success Indicator

If VPS is running + connection is green + strategy is enabled and not UNLICENSED, your system is ready.

That’s it. You do not need to spend 30 minutes staring at candles.

5) The Weekly 5-Minute Check (Prevents Silent Failures)

Once per week, do a deeper check.

This is where you catch issues like:

  • NinjaTrader running but charts frozen

  • strategy disabled accidentally

  • VPS updates/restarts

  • contract rollover issues

  • workspace not saved correctly

Step-by-Step: Weekly Check (5 minutes)

1) Confirm VPS stability

  • Does the VPS feel responsive?

  • Is disk space okay?

  • Is it rebooting unexpectedly?

If it’s slow or freezing regularly, that’s not normal.

2) Confirm NinjaTrader is not crashing

Ask yourself:

  • Have I seen NinjaTrader close randomly this week?

  • Any error pop-ups?

If yes, document it and troubleshoot.

3) Confirm your workspaces load correctly

  • Workspaces → open your TradingBoss workspace

  • Ensure your strategy charts appear

If your workspace is missing, save it again and keep it clean.

4) Confirm charts are updating normally

  • Are candles moving?

  • Is the “last price” changing?

  • Does the time on chart match current time?

If chart is stuck on yesterday, data feed is not flowing.

5) Check for repeating error messages

In Output:

  • look for repeated red error loops

A single warning is not always fatal. Repeating errors are.

6) Confirm strategy is enabled AND set to correct account

  • Right-click chart → Strategies → confirm account dropdown is correct

Beginners sometimes accidentally switch accounts without realizing.

💡 Tip

The weekly check prevents the “I thought it was running for 10 days” disaster.

6) Warning Signs That Need Attention

The system is set-and-forget, but it’s not “ignore-and-hope.”

Here are warning signs that require intervention:

A) Chart is frozen / not updating

If the chart time is stuck on an old timestamp, you are not receiving data.

B) Connection indicator is red

Red means you are disconnected or there’s a bigger broker issue.

C) Strategy is UNLICENSED

License issues must be fixed or it will not trade.

D) Strategy is gray/inactive when it should be running

Gray means disabled.

E) Repeating red error messages in Output

This often indicates:

  • connection failures

  • script errors

  • licensing heartbeat failures

  • data issues

F) Trades are happening at weird times / outside expected hours

Could indicate:

  • wrong session template

  • wrong strategy settings

  • wrong chart timeframe/instrument

7) When Manual Intervention IS Needed (And Exactly What To Do)

Most of the time you do nothing.

But here are the cases where you should intervene.

Case 1 — VPS issues

Symptom: “I can’t connect to VPS”

Possible causes:

  • wrong credentials

  • VPN/network issue at home

  • VPS provider outage

  • VPS is stopped (rare but possible)

What to do:

  1. Verify you’re using correct Remote Desktop info

  2. Try again after 2–3 minutes

  3. If still failing, log into your VPS provider dashboard (ChartVPS) and check status

  4. If VPS is “stopped,” start it

  5. If VPS is “running” but inaccessible, contact VPS support

📝 Note

Disconnecting Remote Desktop does NOT stop the VPS. Shutting down Windows does.

Case 2 — NinjaTrader is closed or crashed

Symptom: You log in and NinjaTrader isn’t running

Possible causes:

  • VPS rebooted

  • NinjaTrader crashed

  • Windows update restart

Fix:

  1. Open NinjaTrader

  2. Load your saved workspace

  3. Confirm connection is green

  4. Confirm strategies are enabled

✅ Reminder

You do not need to reconfigure everything if you saved your workspace. This is why saving workspaces is essential.

Case 3 — Broker connection problems

Symptom: Connection is red or gray

Fix:

  1. In Control Center → Connections

  2. Click your broker connection (Tradovate or Rithmic)

  3. Wait for green

  4. If it fails:

⚠️ Warning

Do not repeatedly spam connect/disconnect 20 times. Try once, wait, read the error, then follow the specific fix.

Case 4 — Strategy errors (Output window shows errors)

Symptom: Red errors repeating in Output

Fix:

  1. Open Output window

  2. Copy the exact error text into a note

  3. Check your strategy status on chart

  4. If licensing-related, go to licensing.mdarrow-up-right

  5. If connection-related, go to broker-connection.mdarrow-up-right

  6. If unsure, screenshot Output + chart and contact support

Case 5 — Contract rollover

What is rollover (simple explanation)

Futures contracts expire and roll to the next month.

Your chart must track the current contract month.

Example:

  • NQ 03-26 might roll to NQ 06-26 (examples only)

  • ES/MES similarly roll

If you trade an old contract:

  • liquidity drops

  • spreads widen

  • behavior can break

Warning signs

  • chart volume looks dead

  • strange price gaps

  • strategy stops trading because instrument is wrong

Fix:

📝 Note

Rollover schedules vary. Weekly check is when you catch this.

8) How to Check if Everything Is Running Correctly (Full Confidence)

If you want a stronger confidence check (still simple):

A) Verify data is live

On chart:

  • Does the last price change every few seconds during market hours?

  • Do candles update?

B) Verify your account is visible

Control Center → Accounts:

  • Do you see your prop accounts listed?

If only SIM101 appears, you are not connected.

C) Verify strategy is enabled and licensed

Right-click chart → Strategies:

  • Enabled checked?

  • License key present?

  • Correct account selected?

D) Verify Output window is clean

Output should not be spamming errors.

A few informational lines are normal.

9) What to Do Before Going on Vacation / Being Away

If you will be away and can’t monitor:

Your goal is to reduce risk and reduce the chance of “nobody notices a problem.”

Option A — Leave running, but reduce risk

  • Use micros

  • Keep daily loss limits conservative

  • One strategy per account

  • Confirm everything is stable before leaving

Option B — Pause strategies intentionally

If you don’t want trading while away:

  1. Log into VPS

  2. Disable strategies (they turn gray)

  3. Confirm broker connection can stay or disconnect (optional)

  4. Leave VPS running

⚠️ Warning

Do not shut down your VPS unless you intend everything to stop. Shutting down can cause extra recovery work later.

Option C — Assign a quick checker

If you have someone you trust:

  • they can do the 30-second check once per day

  • they don’t need to trade, only confirm green + enabled

10) Common Beginner Mistakes in Daily Ops (And How to Avoid Them)

Mistake 1 — Assuming “no trades” means broken

Many strategies are selective. A day with no trade can be normal.

Fix:

  • confirm status is scanning and chart is live

  • confirm correct timeframe/instrument

  • then accept that “no setup today” is possible

Mistake 2 — Restarting everything repeatedly

This usually creates more problems than it solves.

Fix:

  • identify the symptom (license? connection? VPS?)

  • apply the specific fix once

  • verify results

Mistake 3 — Running multiple strategies on one prop account

This can cause hedging violations and stacked risk.

Fix:

  • one strategy per account

Mistake 4 — Not saving workspace

Then after a crash, you lose setup and panic.

Fix:

  • save workspace every time you change something

Summary

TradingBoss daily operations are now designed to be simple:

What happens automatically:

  • daily resets of trade counters

  • strategy refresh behavior

  • normal connection maintenance behavior

What you should still do:

  • a 30-second daily check:

    • VPS running

    • connection green

    • strategy enabled + licensed

  • a 5-minute weekly check:

    • stability, charts updating, workspace saved, no repeating errors, rollover awareness

When you intervene:

  • VPS won’t connect

  • NinjaTrader crashed

  • connection red/gray

  • UNLICENSED

  • repeating errors

  • rollover issues

This keeps you in control without turning automation into a full-time job.
